So Another Senator Got Handcuffed

…and everyone with half a brain is upset about it. Which is as it should be. Righteous indignation is perfectly appropriate in this situation. This should not be happening in a free country, supposedly governed by our Constitution. Free speech, and honest inquiry should not be infringed.

But let me ask you this, if you or I, or any concerned bystander, witnessing a passel of cops, deputies, troopers, or ICE assholes, committing an obvious case of racist fueled abuse, had the guts to ask them what the hell was going on, what do you think would happen to us?

I’ll tell you what would happen, we would be taken down roughly, handcuffed, thrown in a squad car, and be dragged off to jail. Once there, the “authorities” would piss around about letting you have your phone call, and treat you as a goddamn criminal. Just for having the balls to speak.

Us peons have never enjoyed the courtesies our Senators judges, and wealthy folks enjoy. What we have here is a case of trickle up asshole-ery. The assholes, are no longer respecting the folks who used to live the shielded life, against the kinds of thing we have suffered with on a daily basis. Officer Friendly isn’t so friendly anymore. Officer Friendly was a damn lie from the get go.

I was taught about Officer Friendly in grade school. If you ever had a problem, tell Officer Friendly, he is there to help you. Wonderful book illustrations showing Officer Friendly helping the child. I believed in Officer Friendly.

Then when I actually encountered Officer Friendly, expecting Officer Friendly, he actually turned out to be a real asshole. And damn near every one I’ve met since. I say this a LOT, “you will see a lot of Barney’s before you meet any Andy’s. If you’re half as old as me, you might get that.

What has been happening to our elected officials isn’t new. Not by a long shot. What’s new is, the line of privileged entitlement has been crossed. This is a new level of evil. Brought about by our own Felonious Orange.

I too, am outraged at what’s happening. But there’s a tad of schadenfreude mixed in with my concern. On one hand, it’s actually kind of nice seeing the shoe on the other foot. On the other hand, I do fear where this is heading.

When the revolution needs me, call.

Just Three?

Well, the Lord of the Rings trilogy knocks out three in one fell swoop.

Catch 22, is one that had a long lasting impact on me.

Read a lot when I was a kid. I was a voracious reader, couldn’t get enough. My neighbors were an old couple, and the woman had a huge collection of Edgar Rice Burroughs books. I was able to borrow them 3-4 at a time and I read through them like a wildfire through dry tinder. Tarzan, Pellucidar, John Carter of Mars (all of these are series of books, not just one,) and many more. I read through them all, probably three times at least.

Read a lot of Stephen King, and Koontz books too. So many…

Last, but not least, for lack of anything new within my grasp to read, I read the Bible. If there’s anything in this world, that can change the lives of many people, it is this book. Nope, I didn’t become a slobbering, delusional, believer. This book made me realize, it’s all bullshit. For the book when you read it, differs greatly from the stories you hear at the pulpit. It’s an excellent sleight of hand, the way a preacher can take vile acts of rape, murder of innocents and children, incest, demands of obedience or else, mass killings on a global scale, an idiotic timeline of creation, the horrid tale of Job among other things, and then mangle it all into some sweet syrupy, children’s tale of love and happiness? And, oh by the way, “we need money!” Take all of that, then add it to the “what they say vs. what they actually do,” pile. (Yeah, you know what I’m talking about,) things start adding up in a negative way. Pay attention. Do the math. Take your time.

I don’t read as much anymore. Life changes when you have adulting to do. Long weary days of work, and the often unwilling indulgence, in many daily necessities, doesn’t exactly induce a huge desire to read at the end of the day. But I do remember being lost in so many books, with great appreciation.

I hope you do too.

10 YEARS…

Daily writing prompt
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Probably dead, or in a Felonious Orange prison. The king you see, does not like non boot lickers, and non knee benders. I just don’t have it in me to be an ass kissing sycophant. Integrity, it won’t buy you a cup of coffee, but I sleep well at night.

Eventually they will get around to guys like me. Lots of immigrants and brown people to go yet, then lots of gays/trans to go after. Quite a few judges, honorable generals, good prosecutors, etc, to dislodge/repatriate. But the jack boots will get around to me sooner or later.

This post is about 50% tongue in cheek, 25% I really hope I’m wrong, and the other 25% has already cleaned the guns.

Even NOAA is Like WTF?

I hate to keep harping on the weather, but this 3 day storm event we had here was rather epic. I’ve never seen anything like it. As I use the NOAA site daily, sometimes multiple times daily, I find them an invaluable service. So I saw a little tidbit they had posted:

Over the past week, the Mid-South has been impacted by an unprecedented stretch of severe weather and historic rainfall. This prolonged event has led to multiple devastating tornadoes, damaging winds, destructive hail, and widespread, ongoing flooding across much of the region.

We are just beginning to analyze the scale and scope of the impacts. The nature of this event makes it difficult to put into context immediately. In the coming weeks, we’ll be working closely with our emergency management partners to survey the impacts and help frame what this means for our communities and how it fits into historical perspective.

So… I’m not the only one a little shell shocked from this event. There’s a pun in there if you want it.

To think, a National Weather Service, that does so much good for every community in this country, is one of the government agencies being sledgehammered by our idiots in charge. I suppose if there’s weather they don’t like, they can just make sure no one knows its coming, and then it never happened when it did? It’s tough trying to think like an idiot.

Road Hazard

Was time to put tires on the car yesterday. Took it to my favorite place to hate, Wal Mart. Had my son follow me there, for a ride home. I simply cannot stand to wait in a shitty lobby for 2 hours, while they are doing a 35 minute job. Really grinds my gears.

So I tell the guy what tires I want, jump in my sons car, and ride home. We went back a few hours later to get the car, and I remembered that when I dropped the car off, they did not ask me if I wanted Road Hazard, (a warranty not worth the paper it’s written on IMO.) So I told the lady at the counter “I forgot to mention, I do not want Road Hazard,” when I dropped the car off.

“Well why on earth would anyone not want Road Hazard?” She replied. I told her I’ve been burned a few times after spending nearly another 50 bucks for Road Hazard, and then being refused to honor the so called warranty.

She fumbled and grumbled about it as she was going back over the transaction, and canceling the Road Hazard. I mentioned again I’d been burned by it, and refuse to pay for something they will not honor, and please do not take it personally.

You see, there are some wee little exceptions in that “warranty.” If you manage to get a hole in a sidewall, they refuse to warranty. If you get a puncture in the tread, too close to the sidewall, they won’t warranty it either. If you have taken very good care of your tires, by maintaining proper air pressure, and rotating the tires every few thousand miles, and your car starts skating in a downpour, they will go to your tires with a tread measuring tool and find your tread is .5 millimeter beyond their arbitrary warranty claims. In this case it was too much tread by a .5 millimeter margin. By the time I’d have gotten to where they’d warranty the tires, they’d be too dangerous to drive on, hell they were already dangerous when it was raining. And… they would have been pro rated to just about nothing anyway if they did warranty!

All three have happened to me over the many years I’ve been driving. I now refuse to pay for something, that I am only going to wind up being screwed out of. This so-called warranty is heavily skewed to favor the outcome, of them not honoring the warranty. At least in my experience.

Maybe some folks have better luck than I do. Maybe Road Hazard is worth the extra money spent for someone. Just hasn’t been me.

Note: I’m having to rely on memory, going back quite a few years here. So it is possible, but not very likely, I made a mistake in this report. Nevertheless, I maintain my position. Road Hazard ain’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

Whether It’s the Weather?

This is just the tornado warnings. There were numerous severe thunderstorm warnings claiming large hail and high winds, as well as numerous flood warnings. My weather alert radio was going off like crazy for three days. That first night I got maybe three hours of sleep. The storms just kept coming, one after the other. Over and over. It was a rough three days.

You see Jackson Tn. there? Now look at the “G” in Dyersburg, then go about halfway to that vertical squiggly line to the right, which is the Tn. River. That halfway point between the “G”, and the river, is pretty much where I live. We had three tornado warned storms come right over our heads.

We fared well enough. But I do not want to see that again for a good while. Fortunately, the vast majority of those tornado warnings were radar indicated, and not necessarily “on the ground tearing shit up,” tornadoes.

I didn’t catch the total rainfall we got here, but from what I gathered on a TVA site, we got nearly 11 inches in a small town just W of us.

High and dry, and apple pie now. We all good.

Movies and TV Series

I’ve watched more than 5 times? Hate to admit it, but Star Trek ToS. I watched the hell out of that show when I was a kid. At least 5 times through. I still watch it lol. Pluto has it’s own Star Trek channel, and it’s a free app. When I’m surfing, and all of my TV options are things I have no interest in, or have seen already, I tend to drift to Pluto. Star Trek, MST 3K, Tosh.0, Gunsmoke/westerns, a live comedy channel, Dr. Who, if all I could get was Pluto for entertainment, life wouldn’t be all that bad.

Lord of the Rings. I read the trilogy as a kid, amazing story that stands the test of time. What surprised me with the movies was, the accuracy. So many movies lose the gist of the book that spawned them, and leave out important details, or add unnecessary fluff. Not the case with this one. I’m always amazed how well the movies followed the books with this series.

Another childhood show I had to have gone through at least 5 times, Gilligan’s Island. When I got home from school, Gilligan’s Island came on, immediately followed by Star Trek ToS. So I had a TV afternoon escape thing, right after school. Still had plenty of time to go outside and do kid stuff, and get my homework done after supper.

Another childhood show y’all, The Munsters. Yep, I still watch that one too, from time to time.

Alien. The first one. Had to have seen that 5 times. Also Predator. Both good movies. Oh, The Riddick series of movies. Good shit right there.

One of the best movies I have seen in a while, I caught just recently. The Gorge. Saw it a couple weeks back, I’m jonesing to watch that again, I don’t know yet if it will meet the 5 times category, but it might. If you have not seen it, and you like a good story with plenty of action and a wee bit of a love tale, I recommend it highly.

There’s more I’m sure that haven’t come to mind as I write this. Soon as I hit “publish,” I’ll remember. 😉

Good News, Bad News

Science works! Scientists have been studying the hole in the ozone layer for quite some time. They first determined the hole is a direct result of CFC’s, which when released into the environment, work their way up into the atmosphere, and break down the ozone. Scientists raised the alarm, and the result was, the world started trending towards not using so much of these CFC’s, which has led to the currently observed state of the ozone. It’s now healing.

Which is great. Only now, in this current day and age, right before our eyes, science and education are under attack. Entire departments getting wiped out. Massive firings of scientists and highly experienced experts in many fields, are now looking for jobs flipping burgers.

The scientists are the good guys, and gals. Without them we will slide backwards in time. But, you can’t explain that to the morons, because well, they are morons. Dark Ages, here we come. I need a drink…
