Everything Everywhere All at Once

This is a brief movie review. I watched this last night on a whim, on Amazon Prime. At first, as I’m trying to absorb the underlying plot with the Chinese couple and their daughter, which is revolving around an impending IRS audit, and a sneak look at some divorce papers… I found myself thinking wtf is going on here? I’m not getting it.

Subtitles? Yep, subtitles. A few words here and there in English I can understand, and I’m wondering is it going to be like this the whole way through?

And then, it gets intriguing. Odd even. What the heck is going on?

Then the movie takes off like a rocket and drags you along for the ride. It was a pleasant ride. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I won’t do any spoilers, but the movie is a huge metaphor for…

Oops, no spoilers, bwah ha ha ha hah!

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a good movie. I don’t say that often. It does borrow a bit from the Matrix, but I can’t tell you how. Spoilers and whatnot.

I hope you can enjoy it as much as I did.

If you’ve seen it, I’d love to hear your impression.

  1. I’ve got that one queued up on Amazon prime video and I’m looking forward to it.

Last night was Superhero Night, sort of. Netflix is now offering a bunch of DC movies, Shazam, Superman, a couple of Wonder Woman movies. They were not very good, I’m afraid. Why are the DC movies never as exciting or as good as Marvel’s movies are? Although Marvel hasn’t exactly been hitting many home runs either in the last few years.

The only movie I’m eagerly waiting for is the 2nd part of Dune. I thought the first part was very well done and pretty much faithful to the original novel and I’m hoping the 2nd part will be as good.

    • EEAAO is pretty darn good. I think you will like it. It does, as I mentioned, get off to a slow start, but when it takes off it’s hold on to your seat thing, because you are going places.

Hate to admit it, but I’m a Marvel fan. Right now I think they have the market cornered on super hero stuff.

Watched another movie recently that had a similar slow start/fast moving aspect to it, it was “Nobody.” Not as good as EEAAO but it was alright.

Another movie I watched recently, on a whim, was “Jonah Hex.” The plot is a little out there, but the movie, I thought, was executed well.

I read Dune so long ago it might as well have been another lifetime. Think I read that one twice. I have not seen the new versions. I will put it on my list of things to do.

Right now though, it’s “put new U-joints in truck driveshaft day.” I am having my coffee now, trying to get myself mentally prepared for the PITA dirty work.

  3. Very good film. I watched it a few days ago. I liked the message and how it got there in such a unique way.

    • The message is as old as humanity I think.

…and how it got there, was indeed very unique, and entertaining. Glad you watched it and came to the same conclusion 🙂

Thanks for the reinforcement of my humble opinion!
