Clearly an end run around the constitution. Another RWCRFM (Right Wing Conservative Republican Fundamentalist Moron) following the well known wedge strategy, this time by foisting upon children some hoohaw about the bible. You have heard about the Hobby Lobby x-ian asshole, it looks like he is behind this whole thing. The article says and I quote “billed as a way to teach archaeology, history and the arts through Bible stories.” What a bunch of lying bullshit. Then goes on to say “also tells students God is always there in times of trouble and that sinners must “suffer the consequences” of disobeying.” Which is RELIGION. In a school. Which is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
Here is more “While the course does explain the inspiration behind famous works of art and holds a prism to historical events, it also endorses behavior for religious reasons and implies that bad things happen as a direct result of disregarding God’s rules.” Are you kidding me? If this crap actually becomes a reality, and gets taught in public schools, we are doomed as a society. Start packing your bags and looking for another country to live in. I hear Canada is nice. Here is another gem from the article:
“The superintendent of Mustang schools, Sean McDaniel, said if the board believed the curriculum crossed a line it wouldn’t have approved the course.” “We’re not asking kids to believe the stories,” McDaniel said. “This is a purely academic endeavor. If it turns into something beyond that, either we will correct it or we will get rid of it.” More lying bullshit from a lying bullshitter.
There had better be a huge outcry about this, and the people behind it should be made an example of. There is no excuse for this kind of crap in what is supposed to be a society based upon freedom. Freedom means not having someone’s religion forced upon you.
EDIT: I posted this last night, even got a “Like” on it. I got up this morning and it is sitting here in the draft file, untitled, and no longer up on the blog. Has anyone else had this kind of odd behavior? Anyway I have retitled the post and am about to hit Publish. Let’s see what happens.
Nuther Edit: I reread the article, it appears this class will be an elective, not required curriculum. Still it is a generic, watered down, court dodging attempt to introduce religion in schools. This is part of the wedge strategy. Getting the foot in the door, is what this is. I stand by my initial disgust.

What was weird is that there was no title to this blog article to click on. I had to click on the “347 more words”.
I think the easiest way to call them on their bullshit is to now introduce the same curriculum but using the Koran as a basis. See how “academic” their attitudes are then.

I did see the edit, which is why I mentioned something to give you feedback. It might be that it was too long. I am not sure…I’ve never tested the limits of a title. The whole title does show up in the whole URL…but even when I went directly to your page (not from the reader) the title does not show.

It’s still not there. Though you have shortened the title…the url has not change. When you are editing your post, just below the title you will see a line with the URL…you can edit that directly so that it matches the new title. Not sure if that will fix the problem, but that’s what you need to always do when you change the title and want the url to match. 🙂

Hey I have another question if you don’t mind. I have noticed on occaision in the reader, sometimes articles get multiple postings. I have often wondered if when you edit a post, it gets reposted? You have any knowledge on this Gil?

I haven’t seen multiple postings of the same article in the reader before. So can’t really make a guess as to why it happens. I have posted articles than change the title and reposted…but since I can’t see myself in the reader I don’t know if it’s coming up twice.

Yeah, that’s the rub of it, you can’t see your own posts in the reader, there have been several times in my reader I have seen many, like 5-6 duplicated posts. Which made me wonder if every time you make an edit it may repost to the reader.
The WP community mat never know.

Yeah, an omnipotent being was “tired.” Give me a freaking break. Why don’t we teach the kids to stone people who work on the sabbath, too? If it’s all the word of God then it should all be perfect, right?
But I think what bugs me the most is the very first paragraph of the piece. “…also tells students God is always there in times of trouble…” This gets to the crux of why religion in general is a bad thing–it teaches people to NOT find answers within themselves or their own world, but rather to rely upon the supernatural for solutions. You don’t know how many people I knew growing up that would pray to do well on tests in school. If they’d spent half the time they spent praying and in church studying they wouldn’t need to pray and go to church to pass a test in the first place. This bill will only perpetuate the idea that everything in this world is beyond our power to control or influence, that we’re merely passengers in our own lives. It’s a tremendous shame.

Yes. Absolutely. The very strucure of religion is done in a way to turn off a persons ability to think critically. A childs curiosity is snuffed out at a young age, because goddidit is the answer to every meaningful question. Any attempts to question further are met with cuz I SAID SO! Thereby cutting off any desire to learn beyond what they get told…and what they get told is a bunch of bullshit.
That story of praying to pass a test would be funny if it weren’t so sad.
This whole thing is the new test. A watered down not so thinly veiled attempt to sneak religion into public schools. First by getting it in the door by being an elective. If they manage to establish the beach head they will soon attempt to make it a requirement. Later on they will modify the watered down content into the hellfire and brimstone crap they so desire. That’s why it was outlined as a “wedge” strategy.
What are those damnable eyesores on every street corner in every town? Oh right, churches. Why in the hell are they not content to keep their delusions within their own established zones? Why are they so hellbent to get religion in public schools? I believe they are fearful of losing what power they have left and are working diligently to stem the tide of children learning about facts in school, that conflict and contradict their deluded fables.
