Rapists and Murderers

Some of you may know I am married to a nurse.  Well, she works in a home health setting and has been working with 3 year old girl with a lot of health issues.

The family was at a graduation party tonight celebrating the success of 3 college grads, and I had to pick my wife up there. The family is Mexican. The civic center (in a small town mind you) had probably 75 – 80 people there, almost all Mexican. There were a few white boys there, but this was a true Mexican gathering. There was a DJ, playing Mexican tunes. There was much food, which folks kept trying to get me to eat, I had just eaten though and had to graciously pass. I met the family of the little girl, I met several other fine fine folks as well. As I sat there watching the children play, and the people enjoying themselves, a tear formed in my eye. Here was a community of fine hard working people, people with kids, hopes, and dreams. People just like the rest of us. I could not help but think about the climate within this country now, and while I have known for a long time it is filled with racist horseshit, this scene really drove it home.

I often find myself in a position where I feel the need to apologize for my gender, today I feel the need to apologize for my country. I freely offer my sincere apology to all who would suffer at the hands of my racist countrymen. I wish everyone could see a snapshot of the gathering I witnessed this evening. I wish everyone could see what I see, that we are all brothers no matter the color of our skin. And that to treat any one person that looks different than you any differently than you would treat your own, is a crime against humanity itself.

Begone Republican party. Begone Donald Trump. Begone the asinine ass kissing R led House and Congress. Begone every ignorant racist redneck who thinks they are the epitome of human achievement. None of you are fit to live in this country let alone have a hand in governing it.

There, I feel a little bit better…

Some of you may have noticed I haven’t been around much. I gotta tell you I just haven’t been feeling it. I have been taking a blog-cation. I just reached a point where I was tired of chasing down the same old hound dogs that get the majority of attention. I mean I know that people/situations/ridiculous claims/ etc. need to be called out for the sake of honest open discussion, and it is often funny observing the antics of deluded. It just wore thin on me, and I’m taking a breather. Also have way too many things to keep me busy right now, I’ll be back up and around before ya know it though. So y’all behave cuz when I come back I’ll have my hound dog hunting stick.

  1. Latinos know how to have fun don’t they. My wife being Panamanian I get to see some of the crazy good times. We could learn a thing or two about having fun, visiting, family, love and respect from our Mexican friends. Good times. Awesome post and good to see you.

  2. Lovely story, shelldigger. A ‘feel-gooder’ when there are so many ‘feel awfuls’ out there. It’s nice to shine a light on humanity at its best.

P.S. I believe you to be one of the best humans, by the way. 🙂

    • …the ride home the wife was wondering what was wrong with me. This story was taking shape. I’ll tell you this was an emotional post straight from down deep.

As to your P.S. Thank you Carmen I am pleased you would think so. Just try and keep it on the down low, because I have an image to uphold 🙂

I am certain, you are one of the good ones too, takes one to see one.

  3. Our real problem is blame. In a country where “shit happens” is the watchword we just absolutely positively have to have someone to blame for things that go wrong.

We should adopt the totem pole as our national symbol because we don’t seem comfortable unless we have someone beneath us, to stand upon.

  4. I just became aware that people who go through Sensitivity Training demonstrate higher levels of intolerance. That’s right: higher. This result crosses all the usual boundaries. What does produce positive results is familiarity. This is why stratification and separation between different people needs something to counter its chauvinistic effects and why the public school system has produced just such a result. Whenever we encounter proposals for increased stratification and separation – no matter what the reasons may be – we should remain aware that this distrust and increased levels of intolerance carries with it a social cost that harms our commonality.

    • I suppose anyone who is forced to attend “ridiculous, unnecessary” trainings would walk away with the opposite of the desired effect.

I got me a good dose of familiarity last night. Anyone who could spend a little time with that sort of experience and not walk away with some properly gained insights, is probably an incurable asshat already…

      Great comment Tildeb.

    • Thank you sir. That one was boiling under the surface and had to come out, sort of like what’s happening in Hawaii…

I sat down at the computer the moment I got home. I had my wife read it after I posted, she told me I had too much info in there concerning the patient, could be a privacy act violation, so I had to trim the first paragraph quite a bit. I thought I was being carfeul, takes a pro to show it ain’t so. 🙂

    • I’m not familiar with that phrase PT. Admittedly I know very little Spanish, even being married to a Puerto Rican.

I was sitting at a table and a large very curvacious lady in a low cut dress walked up behind me and rattled something off in Spanish, I sort of had access to the back of the table cut off, I thought she wanted me to get the hell out of the way, so I stood up and let her by so she could get around to the other side of the table. As she went by I said “yes ma’am” Later my wife told me she had asked me to hand her the plate with her sandwich on it. So, I felt sort of stupid-er than usual 🙂

…but thanks man. It was one of those moments where you are overwhelmed with appreciation, admiration, sadness, and anger all at once. A four-fer. The blog gave me a place to let it out 🙂

      • I know exactly what you mean Shell and agree. Not to forget that we Europeans are ACTUALLY the immigrants here in America — didn’t bother to ask much less treat fairly the Native American tribes already here for 100,000+ years — but in many ways we are ALL just guests here on this planet. There are many other much better things to be doing for each other and this Earth than spreading hate, division (disguised as security), more ignorance, and oligarchal & plutarchal socieities. IMHO, I think the Nordic Models of governing are superb examples of a more “refined” equality. Certainly worth considering given what’s been happening here since…

…hmm, well… the Civil War? LOL

  7. I was adopted as a baby and my adoptive parents refused (for whatever reason) to tell me anything about my birth parents. After their deaths, I did some research and discovered I’m half-Mexican, half-German. I do wish I’d had this info when I was younger. I would have loved to immerse myself in the Mexican culture. But … it is what it is, as they say. *sigh*

  8. Love Mexican folks. I grew up in a mixed neighborhood where most of my pals were Mexican and Puerto Rican. Great folks and AWESOME food. Our country is far better BECAUSE of the fact it is such a mixture of so many different people from so many different places. I wouldn’t have it any other way. The bullshit we hear from Lord Trump and his Republican minions needs to end. I really hope people vote these bastards out in November.

  9. Thank you for putting into words what some of us wish we could express and far too many need to hear. Be well, treat yourself kindly, and I look forward to your posts when you feel like doing them. Hugs

  11. I hear ya. I stopped blogging because I simply had to stop with all the politics. It was beginning to be overwhelming. Glad to see you back, though!

    • What gets me is the emotional involvement, especially when you weren’t trying to get emotional in the first place, then someone makes a statement that feels very much an attack by a 6 year old moron, then you feel the need to respond like a 6 year old moron, then the next thing you know you are a little irritated. Irritation is something I need to whittle down in my life, not throw more on the fire 🙂
